William began his insurance career in 1989, as an Assistant Underwriter for National Marine Underwriting Agency, where he spent five years learning the principles of marine insurance, claims and underwriting.

In 1994, he moved to Club Marine, first as an Underwriter, then spent two years as their Claims Manager, before moving into the role of Development Manager.  In this role, he was responsible for the development of pleasurecraft business through the Club Marine Agent and Broker network for all of NSW, including representation at the prestigious annual Boat Show, where Club Marine was a major sponsor.

In 1999 William moved to Associated Marine Insurance Agency as their Business Development Manager for NSW, specifically to grow their cargo and commercial hull portfolio.  He was responsible for creating a new culture for the continued growth and strength of the Associated Marine brand, with two direct reports and three Regional Mangers accountable to him for their business development responsibilities.

In 2004 he moved to CGU Insurance as their NSW/QLD Business Development and Underwriting Manager.  Here he was responsible for new business development across all marine lines, renewals, auditing, compliance and staff management of a team of six.  He later expanded his role to take over new business development for marine in SA, WA and VIC.

In 2009 William started as National Development Manager, Marine for Allianz Australia Insurance.  He was employed to evaluate and correct their entire marine book, and to change the underwriting culture, philosophy and direction for Australia. He subsequently assumed additional responsibilities as National Underwriting Manger, responsible for all major accounts.

In 2013 William was recruited as National Manager Marine Lines for AXIS Specialty Australia.  He was asked to create, establish and build a marine book to complement existing Australian lines and International operations.  In this role he set up all marine line policies, procedures and documentation from scratch, and was responsible for all major accounts. He also managed budget controls, planning, marketing, auditing and compliance, as well as all senior intermediary contact.  As part of the AXIS senior leadership team, he travelled to both Singapore and London.

In 2016, Cargo and Carriers Underwriting Agency was born, to finally bring William’s wealth of marine experience to his own operation.
